Our short break tours offer the same quality as a full length tour but feature the highlights of a region to suit a time sensitive schedule. Short breaks also offer the flexibility of rolling a city break and an activity holiday into one.
Highlights: Budapest - Opera House, Heroes' Square, City Park, St. Stephen's Basilica, Parliament, Castle Hill with the Royal Palace and Fishermen's Bastion. Bükk: baroque city of Eger, Turkish bath and wine cellars, 'Veil cascade' and trout lake at Szilvásvárad.
Walking: 2 full days (3, 5), several shorter walks and city walks
YOUR PROGRAM:
Day 1 – Budapest
Welcome to Hungary! The location of your Budapest hotel allows you to make a city walk to some of the main sights of the capital: Opera House, Heroes’ square, City Park or St. Stephen’s Basilica. Depending on your free time, you might also climb the Castle hill to visit the Royal Palace and see the Parliament from above. Overnight in Budapest.
Day 2 – Eger
Today you take the train to Eger (appr. 2hrs), one of the oldest settlements in Hungary that flourished as Renaissance centre. The heart of the own is overlooked by a fortified medieval castle worth a visit. You will also see the splendid central basilica and, by walking the streets, you can discover the baroque charm of the city. Once in Eger, you must taste the fiery Eger wines and visit the Turkish bath. Overnight in Eger. (B)
Day 3 – Felsőtárkány
The walking tour starts today, by leaving Eger into the Hungarian countryside and the Bükk National Park. You will walk in the middle of vineyards and other local cultures and cross several rivers and an increasingly wooded zone to reach Felsőtárkány, a lovely village full of vine-laden gardens and parks. You will find a superb small lake, Szikla, in the middle of luxuriant vegetation. Return to Eger (taxi) to enjoy your well deserved dinner. Overnight in Eger. (B, D)
Day 4 – Szilvásvárad
You make a short train ride to Szilvásvárad. It is a real paradise for nature-lovers, with Lippizan stud barn, trout pond, forest train and many more sights in the valley of Szalajka creek. The highlight is the 'Veil cascade' running out as a staircase, thus offering a unique spectacle to hikers Overnight in Szilvásvárad. (B)
Day 5 – Szilvásvárad
The full days is yours today to explore the surroundings of Szilvásvárad as well. (Hármaskút, Bánkút, Istállóskő). Many walking paths are offering superb circular walks of different length and difficulty level. We assist you with detailed walking map and tour ideas. Dinner and overnight in Szilvásvárad. (B, D)
Day 6 – Departure
You say goodbye to the Bükk mountains today to return to Budapest by train. Departure individually – or some extra nights, on request. (B)
